David J. Kaufmann is a founding member and senior partner of New York City's Kaufmann, Feiner, Yamin, Gildin & Robbins LLP.
David - - partner-in-charge of Kaufmann Feiner's franchise team - - is nationally acclaimed as one of the nation's leading franchise lawyers. No less an authority than the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York recently held that David Kaufmann is unquestionably an expert in franchise law. The New York Times lauds David as a lawyer in New York who has represented many of the nation's top franchisors and who wrote the New York franchise disclosure law. Crain's New York Business calls him a nationally recognized expert in franchising. And Franchise Times recently cited David as one of franchising's superstars. In fact, David alone is featured in The Best Lawyers in America under the heading Franchising - - New York City.
David authored the New York Franchise Act (New York's franchise statute). He served as Special Deputy Attorney General in the Franchise Section of the New York Attorney General's office. David is an advisor to the organization of state and federal officials responsible for devising and coordinating franchise regulatory activity nationwide - - the NASAA (North American Securities Administrators Association) Franchise and Business Opportunities Committee. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the New York State Bar Association Franchise Law Committee. David is the New York Law Journal's franchise columnist and authors the franchise Practice Commentary appearing in McKinney's New York Statutes, which is routinely relied upon by federal and state courts determining franchise disputes. And David serves as Associate Editor of the American Bar Association Franchise Law Journal and serves as counsel to the National Franchise Council, an organization of some of the nation's largest and most prestigious franchisors.
A graduate of the Columbia University School of Law, David also served as Director of the American Stock Exchange's Legal and Regulatory Policy Division under then-Chairman Arthur Levitt (who went on to chair the Securities and Exchange Commission).
